We were absolutely delighted this week to host our local Member of Parliament, Yuan Yang, for a private tour of our brand-new alternative provision centre in Sindlesham, Wokingham.

While she was unfortunately unable to attend our recent Open Day, we were thrilled that Ms. Yang, the Labour MP for the newly-created Earley and Woodley constituency, took the time to visit us. Her constituency covers a wide area including Earley, Woodley, Shinfield, and parts of Wokingham and Reading, making our alternative provision centre a key part of the local community she serves.

The uReach leadership team, Director of Inclusion Jo Iremonger, and Company Directors Charlie and Steph Hiscox, were on hand to guide the MP through our thoughtfully designed alternative provision centre.

The visit was particularly great to host since our Director of Inclusion, Jo, had recently attended the MP's successful SEND Forum. That event brought together professionals and parents to discuss the critical need for robust SEND support in the local area. It was a wonderful opportunity for Jo to transition from discussing policy in the forum to physically showcasing the kind of high-quality provision uReach offers.

And, of course, the tour was only complete with a greeting from our fluffiest team member, Rocco the dog, who made sure to get in for a quick pat and photo opportunity!

Passionate Discussions on Funding and Local Support

Throughout the tour, we had productive and positive conversations about the state of SEND support in the borough. Ms. Yang demonstrated a strong passion for supporting young people in our community, especially those who struggle to access mainstream education.

We were able to openly discuss some of the challenges, including the ongoing funding struggles faced by schools and the rising demand for specialist services including for AP provision such as that offered at uReach. Ms. Yang, who has a background in economics and a commitment to fighting for economic justice, was highly attentive to these issues, recognising the vital investment required to ensure every child with an EHCP can access a calm, supportive, and specialist learning environment.

She was particularly struck by our ethos of "Purpose Driven Learning," noting that the dedication of the uReach team ensures every child's development goals are at the forefront of their educational journey. We were proud to share how our model helps primary school children re-engage with education and build a brighter future.

We look forward to maintaining a strong working relationship with Ms. Yang, building on these important discussions to advocate for and deliver better outcomes for our local young people.
